  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is currently to gain an insight into the aspects of each department within the engineering spectrum at Siemens. This involves undertaking tasks relevant to each department and working on projects alongside coworkers. I am also working towards an NVQ as part of the apprenticeship and therefore I also gather evidence and complete knowledge questions to prove my competency in the work place.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been able to develop many skills during my apprenticeship. The main skills that I have developed are team-working, leadership and self-confidence. I have also picked up new skills that are relevant to the departments that I have worked in such as creating drawings and fault finding within systems that I am testing.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying my time in the programme and I think that it has been very beneficial to me as both an employee and as an individual. Each time I move departments, I am learning new things and this keeps the programme interesting as well as maintaining an atmosphere that challenges and pushes me to try new approaches to problems.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • When I first entered the workplace full time, I was issued with a timetable that showed the rotation that I would be following for the duratin of my apprenticeship. This has the dates and departments that I would be working at as well as the people who would serve as my mentors for the durarion; enabling a seamless transition between areas.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive support in amounts that allow me to progress but also ensure that I am thinking on my own and trying to work out the solution to a problem first before I request help. This encourages me to develop my skills at the tasks that I am assigned and has benefited my confidence in the work place.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Similarly to the previous question, I receive enough support to allow me to progress without telling me the answers directly therefore encouraging me to use the knowledge that I have attained and use it to solve the questions that I have been set or the task that I have been assigned.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My training allows me to take a new perspective when dealing with problems and tasks that I am set. This works to my benefit as having multiple perspectives to consider (such as health and safety, financial, developmental, etc) enable me to create a better solution and therefore a better overall product.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many events over the year that allow for employees to connect with the business or to relax or to enjoy a sport for the afternoon. There are weekly matches of 5-a-Side football which is the most common activity. However there are also more infrequent and bigger events such as days taken to improve team building.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Siemens to a friend as it is a well respected company that has an in-depth understanding of the people who they employ and work with to ensure that apprentices have an understanding of how the company operates. They provide many opportunities for higher education as well as having a welcoming environment that allows newcomers to settle in quickly.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • I would suggest making your application stand out as much as possible, ensuring that the interviewer remembers your application and your face puts you in good standing. When applying online, ensure that your answer to questions are concise yet contain enough information to satisfy the person reading it without boring them.
