  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role on a day to day basis has changed from enabling and supporting my team to best support and advise our clients, to starting to advise clients myself. When in the enabling role, my focus day to day was on research, data analysis and PMO. Whereas in the more advisory role, I have been owning sections of the project - from research and analysis to structuring advise and presenting and chairing client meetings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed skills such as business writing, data analysis and presentation skills. I sought opportunities to present specifically as I felt it was an area that I wanted to work on. I have developed skills through the professional qualifications (part of the apprenticeship), firm training as well as learning on the job. I have learnt new skills such as accounting through the CIMA (certificate) professional qualification too.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The extent to which I enjoy my programme highly depends on the project I am on at any given time. The good thing is that we get variety and can try different things in different industries - but this comes with lots of change, the need to adapt and sometimes moving from a great project and having a great experience, to a less great experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Currently the programme is very well structured. There have been improvements in the qualifications offered - now offering an Open University degree apprenticeship. This cleared up a lot of ambiguity around qualifications and the messaging of the duration of the apprenticeship itself. There are some good internal strutures to provide support but this varies between areas and service lines.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive. Again this depends on the area of the business and the internal structures, but in my area there are good support networks and clear, accessible contacts to speak to if you have any issues or concerns. Team sare usually very understanding about the apprenticeship commitments as apprentices become more common.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider is very supportive. The old provider however was not. The Open University is understanding, tutors are very nice and helpful, and the website is relatively easy o use once you have he induction. The Open University also utilities different materials and methods to aid our distance learning.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification helps me perform better in my role as the content is so relevant. For example, out of the 4 sections of the first module already completed, knowledge from all four has been directly applicable to the work on my project (day to day role). It provides me with a better context and grounding for the work I am doing.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Again, dependent on the area you are in but in my area there are lots of different types of community events. They are also very good at taking on feedback for events: there is everything from regular drinks events, coffee mornings, drop in sessions/ catch ups, sports teams and societies to join, board game nights and quizzes. In other areas however there is significantly less.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a good environment to learn, grow, try different things and build up a variety of knowledge about different industries. Compared to lots of other firms the support is phenomenal. (HIGHLY DEPENDENT OF WHAT AREA OF THE BUSINESS YOU SIT IN). Deloitte provides you with a great platform to springboard your career.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • My advice would be to be curious, ask questions and do not think they are looking for anything in particular - be yourself. Be prepared to work hard, seek and take every opportunity, as a career at Deloitte is what you make it. Projects and circumstances always change so also be prepared for short and long days, as well as working locally and away sometimes.
