  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I am involved with various aspects of project support and management including schedule/programme management, financial management, team coordination - resource and activity management, document preparation and various other ad hoc tasks relating to project delivery across all sectors including rail, aviation, healthcare and energy.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt various new transferrable skills since starting my apprenticeship. I have developed my people skills which has allowed me to grow relationships within work, leading to opportunities. Communication skills is something I have learnt about more since starting, learning how to alter my methods to achieve effective communication.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship, I believe it was the right choice for me since leaving school, it has given me the opportunity to earn and learn. The amount of learning involved on an apprenticeship is much more than you would get out of a classroom.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of my apprenticeship has been good however since completing my L4 Project management HNC my further education has been limited. In wales there is currently limited funding for L6 degree apprenticeships. L6 degree apprenticeships are a grey area in terms of funding.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My team have suppported me greatly since starting and the majority of my learning has come from them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from my training provide could be better, it is a fairly new course for them as well which is why there have been a few minor teething issues. The course material us substantial but further understanding is not supported as much.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have been able to understand the theory and practical side of Project management since starting with my training provider.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are unlimited extra-curricular activities to get involved with here at Arup. There seems to be something for everyone, no one is pressured to get involved but almost everyone has some involvement with the extra-curricular activities.
