Software Engineer Review

Almost everyday I am working on a new problem. I have been given a exciting project that fit within a larger project that the company is working on. I am happy to come in every day because my work genuinely interests me.

I have learnt a lot about software, math, engineering, business, physics and organisation. I am constantly learning something new. My team is great and are always happy to explain/discuss something with me and they treat me with respect.

I found that the programme can be slightly intense at times. There is a lot of information thrown at you and you have to try and remember everything. This has meant I had to dramatically improve my note taking skills. However, I have really enjoyed it so far.

At times the university that I am doing my apprenticeship with has been terrible. I had to go out of my way to sort a lot of thing out and still every now and again I have to contact the Uni because they have made a mistake.

I receive a lot of support whilst I am at work but outside of work such as university I am by myself. This was quite scary at times because I felt a lot of pressure to succeed.

I have received some support from a few people but most the time is me trying to sort out a problem that they have caused.

I feel that my training has helped me perform better at my job and I am very happy with the training provided.

There are a few events but it is quite an isolated office. The London office is a lot more social than the one in Birmingham. I do wish there was more social events organised.

Arup is a fantastic company that I am proud to work for. I like the fact that the work I am doing is helping society and has a positive effect on this world. They are a trustworthy firm that acts out of ethical principles. I genuinely enjoy working here.

I recommend that people do a little bit of research of Arup. I encourage you to look at a previous project that they have worked on (my favourite is the barbican). Working for Arup is more than a job it is a lifestyle.
