  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Completing random tasks which are irrelevant to the job role to save the company money by them not paying someone who isn't on an apprenticeship to do the same work. All tasks require no thought at all, only manual labour, such as drilling concrete, pulling cables around a substation and painting.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Not much at all, everyday I wished I took a different offer for an apprenticeship. The only benefit to this job is getting expenses paid. Too much is expected of apprentices such as travelling to work in the early hours of the morning for around three hours to get to site by 07:00

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At college it was fine but after completion we were left to out own devices completely, it took a few months for the company to give us some work to do where they just gave us random work to be completed for the head of the section of our company.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The mentor is the only person who can get things done and change the situation, no one else does anything but the mentor has been transferred to a different part of the company now so we are left in the dark with no one to contact now, the manager is impossible to get in touch with

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Very little, all the help comes from other apprentices completing the same work. We were only shown how to use the OneFile system, after that we were on our own to complete, the mentor is there to help if help is required however he has no obligation to help is with him now working for a different part of the company.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The company does not have a football team, however some people from site play football on a Wednesday after work but this was organised by people not on the pay roll for the company and this was organised completely outside the company. There are no social activities apart from two trips a year organised by the company however only people that work in the offices get invited to these

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • No


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is too large for it to be efficient, so much money is wasted by the company every day and due to the size of the company there is nothing one person can do to change this, even when you have meetings with people higher up and tell them ways to cut costs they just ignore the idea as it would be too much effort for them to implement.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • Use it as practice for trying to get a job but do not sign the contract when you get offered it. They are not as good to work for as you think, they expect way too much of people and they don't care about your health, they even don't pay overtime and when you try and get them to pay it you always get fobbed off and told to speak to your manager, who is impossible to contact directly
