  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role at kier, I work at the very start of schemes, where I would do a lot of reports, and come up with best solutions for the scheme. I also do a bit of design work, creating new signage, creating drawings where new signs are going to be.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before joining kier, I had very little confidence and knowledge, since joining I have been made to feel so welcome, where confidence has grown. My skills with auto cad were not there, in fact I didn't know what it even was, but since using it in my role, I have gained a lot of knowledge

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The best bit about the programme is meeting new people, who like you are new, and have similar experience and knowledge as you, it is nice to be learning from scratch together, and I can honestly say I have met some great people, by having this, it makes the course really enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My college side of the programme is not the greatest, it is very stop start and not much push so therefore can be quite difficult and challenging, however, when in the office, my mentors and line manager have come up with really good plans for me, and am constantly being updated with where I am.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In my office, I have a lot of people who are really helpful and made me feel welcome, and a part of the team. They always offer help, not only with my work based work, but also if I get stuck with any college stuff, for me this makes me feel positive as I never feel the need to be unsure and afraid to ask questions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • With the college, they come down once a week to mentor us. We as a group are getting a bit confused, with the different tutors, different views etc. We havent fully started our course, although we have been going to college for over 3 months now, so we arent positive as where this is going.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • From the college provider, we havent got into much detail about the course, or started all the modules, however, the modules we have done, health and safety, has helped boost my knowledge, and makes me look out for things i probably wouldnt look out for before hand, to be safe.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Throughout Kier, they do hold events, mainly for charities where you can get involved and help out the community, things such as gardening at schools etc. it gives you something different for the day. However, telford does not have many opportunities like this to get involved due to the location we are in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would truley recommend Kier to people because it is a good place to work, the staff here are helpful, and it never made me feel uncomfortable. The benefits we get are amazing, as well as the different opportunities they have to offer. It may have been something new, but with the support, it has made it a lot easier for me.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
  • Be yourslef, be open to new ideas and different opportunities. Throughout the stages be confident, if you aren't sure, ask questions. Try and get involved as much as posaible, and be enthusiastic in what you are doing. When applying and throughout the process, fully express yourself, there is hundreds of people who will want this job, so stand out from the crowd.
