Mechanical engineer Review

I am a mechanical engineer with Siemens, which involves the final assembly stage of a gas turbine engine. As an apprentice, you will move round placements and I am currently in a fitting placement which involves me putting the engine core on an under base and lots more ready for it to be sent out to site.

Before I started the apprenticeship, I had the basic idea of mechanical engineering as I did work close to my family which are very mechanically minded. But since working for Siemens I have definitely developed my existing skills, developed lots of new ones and I now know a lot more than I used to.

I really do enjoy my apprenticeship as it has helped me learn lots of new things. I can also learn lots more and get some good quality qualifications at the end of my apprenticeship and the best bit is that I get paid whilst I am gaining skills and knowledge.

The apprentice programme scheme is very well planned out. Originally in the first year, I was at college full time, learning the basics of the mechanical engineering world which helped me to where I am now which is applying what I have learned to other things like fitting equipment onto an engine.

Whenever I am in need of something, whether it be some advice or something like an item of cloathing, my employer is always there to help and is never far away. They are always willing to help me learn new skills and if there are any problems, they can usually help

Whenever I am stuck then they will always be there to guide me in most situations to get to my target. Sometimes I need to learn for myself and try to think of a solution on my own back bone, as most of my apprenticeship will be me working to get the qualifications I want.

When I go into work or college, I always work towards my goals that need to be archived. This then will help me get to where I need to be in order to get the qualifications that I want and when I get them, I will feel better performed in my job role.

At Siemens, they offer a lot of volunteering opportunities to go on and help out the company. At the minute, they are trying to get more young people involved in engineering by giving out volunteering opportunities out to apprenticeship to go to different schools around Lincolnshire to make them want to get into engineering.

I would recommend Siemens to a friend because they have a really good background of engineering and have a really good understanding of a customers needs for a product. They are also a well known company across the world and I am very proud to work for such a big company.

I would definitely say go for it as it is such a good environment to be working in and you gain lots of knowledge. I would also say good luck to any one applying as it is a hard to become on of there employees but it is well worth it.
