  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I dleiver food and drinks to tables ensure everyone is happy with their meals, clear and clean tables as well as helping deal with customer complaints and feedback. At the end of each night a clean down is done where all products are dated and all fridges, walls, sides and floors are cleaned.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills suck as how to speak correctly to customers, how to correctly set tables for customers. I have learnt how to carry more than 2 plates on one arm. I have also learnt how to stay calm and collected under a lot of pressure espescially on the weekends when there is alot of customers contantly coming in and out.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme was okay, it included alot of written work at home as well as meetings during days off or during a break at work which could be stressful on a ten hour shift and losing the one hour break to have a meeting about your apprenticeship. But in the end of it all there are benefits like being able to move onto a stage 3 apprenticeship and eventually run your own pub or hotel.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well structured to get texts to remind you of meetings, you also get a weekly email to let you know where you should be in your work you also get given a wallet full of useful information and the timetable of what work you should be doing by what week so there is always somewhere to check if you're on target with the timetable or even ahead or behind which is very useful.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer always checked with where I was at in my work and he also asked my trainer for weekly/monthly updates on what I am doing in my work as well as asking me every time he saw me and if I needed assistance he always offered when he could.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I also received alot of support from my trainer I had her number so if ever I needed help woth something or had questions I would text and ask which was useful not having to wait until the next planned meeting, she would always get back to me as soon as possible so I could use my time efficiently.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps you perform better as there is a website I would use that had all the information about doing things correctly as well as questions at the end to help you contain the text that had been read whcih I could always think back to whilst working to ensure I was doing the correct things in the correct way.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Unfortunately at my place of work there isn't anything like that to take part in but I feel could be beneficial for other young workers just starting as it could keep them wanting to work hard and not just give up and stay living at home when they could be out earning and then every other month a big social event could happen with everyone that works there.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Marston's to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Marston's to others espescially where I worked, as the managerial staff are very friendly and work closely with you until you can get it right on your own and if ever you need help they are there to help immediately. I'm not sure if the staff at other Marston's establishments are the same but based off of my experiences I would recommend Marston's.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marston's?
  • Always stay looking smart and clean. Never show up to any work place drunken, hungover or ill, let them know before hand so they can have someone cover for you. Also always be prepared to be called in and cover someone else's shift it will help you become ever better friends with managers as they like to see people keen to crack on.
