  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Learning the ins and outs of becoming an repair engineer team leader on the gas network. Job involves looking for and repair gas leaks in the network as well as relaying services and eventually main laying. Lots of digging is involved and well as using power tools and other tools and materials used to perform repair work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt a variety of new skills and learnt much about the gas network. Having not worked in such a physically demanding job before I feel that the work is also helping me develop my fitness and strength as well as teaching me a trade I can take anywhere in the world.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cadent Gas to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • A recent introduction of a new contract which has reduced the starting salaries of lead engineers significantly including what my new starting salary will be. The contract seems to have been pushed out without actually being finalized and despite this managers have been pushing employees to apply for the new jobs which I think is unfair and gives me the impression that Cadent is a company which cares more for its profits than the well being of its staff.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cadent Gas?
  • Don't do it unless its an apprenticeship.
