  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Based around block based learning, spending 2-3 months at university and then 2-3 months working. Learn a lot of theoretical knowledge at uni which can be applied in the workplace. While working I could be doing anything from setting up a radio station to fixing camera equipment. It's incredibly varied and depends on what brakes.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt a hell of a lot about broadcasting and the broadcasting chain. I've learnt how to set up a radio studio from the base parts to a fully working studio. I've been taught how to use all of the core systems and been given access to training material.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • University can be boring at times but that's not really an issue, everyone finds school boring at times. When on work placements it is great, it's very varied and there's always things to do and learn. We have a wide variety of placements too meaning it's always fresh.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We have 2 scheme supervisors and a scheme manager looking after us, they organise our placements and uni. It is quite organised and structured. They have a annual timetable and when on placement we get a week by week schedule, showing us where we are placed and in what department.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get all the support I need. If I needed anything I know the BBC would do their best to help. I have a manager and supervisor when on work placement which support me and help me with any queries or problems I have. The management team at the BBC is great.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have had no issues so far but the lecturer's are very helpful and they would give me support if I needed it. Others on my course have received support and they don't have anything bad to say. The pastoral care is quite good at bcu so all good.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications are very useful in the workplace as the topics we are learning can be applied to the work environment easily. They compliment eachother quite well. It's a good mix of theoretical and practical work at uni and we've learnt some valuable basic skills such as soldering.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have become good friends with many of my colleagues and we do go on social events but they are not organised by the BBC or management, they are organised by us. That being said there are occasional social events organised by management. I have made some good friends because of this scheme.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a great company to work for they offer so much support and the opportunity I have on this scheme is second to none. The job is so varied and I've learnt so much, the knowledge I've gained working on the job is crucial. I will have so many job opportunities I have after the scheme.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • Just be yourself the interviewers are looking at your attitude and aptitude as much as they are looking at your academic ability. Be confident and outgoing if you get through to the interview days, you deserve to be there and you've beat a lot of applicants to get there
