  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am on air 6-10 every Wednesday on one of our Radio programmes and I am also editing a lot of interviews alongside scheduling and booking in guests for various shows. I do public conversations to use in VOX Pops and work with all ages. It has been a pleasure to come to work every day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I came into radio as a beginner with a passion and that is what drove me to all the new opportunities and experiences as well as developing my skills to a high standard through our training with both the BBC and All Spring Media. It has opened my mind to so many differetn avenues i could take.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the programme and I can't quite believe how amazing it has been. I have been to places I would never intend to go and travelled a lot of the UK too in my apprenticeship so far. It has been so good and i would encourage anyone to do it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very organised and structured on the BBC front and i would say the same for All Spring Media but I do feel that the online lessons differ from the in person lessons where the online zoom sessions are much more structured. In a way it works better for me but everyone has their own opinions.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get so much support from every single person in the office and I think that my line manager always has my back as well as exec editor to in the station. i think it is also important for me to give feedback to them and vice versa because it is very valuable.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I feel there is someone there to always hear my concerns and importantly act on them. I think that ASM have several members who work there but only a few who i actually know of that i would want to talk to so i think it is important to know who to speak to.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that even though i work in radio, my qualification gicves me a chance to work in every medium whether it is radio, podcasting, tv, digital media and graphics so i am really grateful that i have the opportunity to learn all tricks of the trade. it certainly up my street.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are certainly professional networking events within the BBC and i am not so sure about the sporting activities however, i wouldnt necessarily go looking for that particular activity anyway as i am committed to other attachments outside of work. we do have perks at work though which provide gym memberships etc.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it has been the most amazing journey so far and if you want to follow my apprenticeship journey you can look on instagram @courtsjournal where you will see how much i love it. I really think that all the opportunities are so good and no other staff can get better training than an apprentice.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • Take your time, be patient and take everything you do with open arms because there is so much variety and opportunity that it can boost you into careers that you never intended in being. i think it is important to be yourself and also to allow the career path to run wild.
