  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I am expected to deliver an update on what I was working on yesterday and intend to be working on for the day ahead. I then return to my desk and pair with a more senior member of the team to achieve my tasks for the day

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining the BBC I have learned a range of new technologies and skills I previously didn't have. These have been learnt via day-to-day work and training courses. The most important thing that I have learnt is how to work well within a professional team and attending things such as stand-up, retrospectives, postmortems and amigo sessions

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme throughly it has given me the opportunity to work in different areas in technology and work within extremely competent teams. I have been allowed to work at my own pace whilst learning technologies and products which has made me a better fit for the team I am currently working in

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is quite loosely structured in that people on the scheme are given the opportunity to choose where they work and what training courses they wish to take part in. We have meetings with our scheme supervisor on a regular basis which allows us to feedback on our experiences and any issues which we may be having in our teams

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer provides me with any support which I may require. Although I have not required much additional support they are very accommodating of issues you may be experiencing both professionally and personally, I think the biggest factor I noticed is that there are mental health first aiders all across the organisation

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have not been working towards any additional qualifications whilst on the graduate scheme however on all of the training courses I have taken part in the tutor has often provided the class with contact details if we require any additional support. As a employee of the BBC I also have access to online resources such as pluralsight, qwiklabs, and Linkedin Learning

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have already achieved my qualification prior to joining the Graduate Scheme at the BBC. However I feel that on a regular basis my education is used whether it being things which I learn at College or University. My overall learning helps me carry out my job. The most influential training I have taken part in whilst at the BBC is TDD training which is a daily task which I had never previously understood

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The BBC is a very social workplace in which there are often events happening from weekly football to yoga on a Tuesday and Thursday. Aside from this there are often days built around team building and where the entire team gets together to discuss what has happened over the last few months and where we are heading

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend working at the BBC to a friend for a variety of reasons, the working hours are great, the people are great and the work is great. You will work on a variety of different products in which will affect millions of people on a daily basis which is a great feeling

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • I would advise anyone who is applying to just be themselves. The BBC is made up of a range of people from many different walks of life. Be confident in your abilities and be accepting that there are things which you do not know but have a willingness to learn
