  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on a TV program so my day to day routine changes everyday, although as an apprentice my main role is to learn from those around me. Each day I could be doing things like; Editing footage, Filming, researching pieces for the show and finding new stories. Everyday is very different and a new experience!.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting at the BBC I have learnt more than I ever thought possible. Things I thought that I'd never be able to do like editing and filming are now becoming second nature to me. I have learn; How to edit, how to film properly, how to interview people, how to be on and off camera, how to find stories, and so much more! All the things that a journalist needs to know I am being taught and practicing until it is my second nature.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my job! I couldn't tell you how proud and happy I am to work where I do and do the things I do everyday! It's all been great! It's a lot to learn and take in especially as it's my first job but it's so worth it as I'm doing something I'm truly passionate about. The people who are looking after my team and who manage me are all amazing and have made this apprenticeship even better!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It's very well organised! The BBC has successfully ran many apprenticeship programs and have included everything we need to learn. They have put me in a great placement where everything I'm being taught can be practiced. They have figured out what needs to be done and each apprentice has been given a detailed plan for the next 22 months of our apprentice. But if anything for that plan does change, the people who look after my team are very quick to let us know!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • So much! I have a lot of people that I receive support from and can go to for help should I need it. I'm able to ask anyone any questions I have at anytime I need to and they are always checking up on us to make sure everything is okay or to see if I need help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards our qualifications, we were sent to college for about 10 weeks to learn everything we needed to know for our exams. Before each exam we are given some extra time to revise with our teachers to make sure that we have the best possible chance of passing every exam. So I would say that I do receive a lot of support while working towards my qualifications.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification is the NCTJ Level 3 Diploma in Journalism which I would say helps me a lot in my role as it tells me all the things that I need to know to do my job as well as I can. It also teaches me all the things that I cannot do, that could potentially get me in a lot of trouble one day. So I would personally say that it's a big help towards being the best journalist I can be.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The BBC has the BBC Social Club which has lots of classes, gym, events, even has its own dinner. Which a lot of people are a member of. As well as that there is lots of events where talks are given by people who have been successful in their job from inside and outside the BBC and networking events held around different BBC locations.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because throughout my apprenticeship I have learnt more than I ever thought I would, my eyes have been opened up to a whole new world. They have not just trained me to work well but they have developed my skills an amazing amount in just a short time. Its is a company full of people who want to see everyone succeed. I have no doubt that should someone really want to be part of the media business and they came to the BBC, they would enjoy it just as I have.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • I could not tell you how many times I have been told this by everyone I have met at the BBC but be yourself! We are constantly looking for new ideas and we want to be diverse. I NEVER EVER though I would get this job! I honestly asked my boss weather it was a prank when I was offered the job. So even if you don't think something is going to happen, try anyway because you never know. Be open!! before this job I was TERRIFIED to talk to new people, to call people, to pick up a camera and just start filming things but eventually I got used to things and now my comfort zone is much bigger. Things may be scary at first eventually after doing them enough times they stop being scary.
