  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an Apprentice my role changes day to day, I am currently on a show called 'Animal Impossible' but will soon enough be helping on 'Frozen Planet 2' Some days I will help with research, other days I will assistant the edit assistants, I also do get offered to go out on shoots. So far my apprenticeship has been fantastic. I have learned so much about television from it, I cannot wait to continue my career here.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been able to develop my knowledge on Adobe Premiere Pro an editing system used here at the BBC. I have also learned a new self confidence in speaking to people and better ways to research into tasks I want to find out about. I have also developed skills on camera and audio. Just watching and seeing how it is done teaches me new ways to think about it.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the Programme I am on now. I think the apprenticeship programme is professionally run with amazing people behind it supporting you in every step you want to take. I have never felt that I have been mistreated or not been taken seriously. Everyone is so patient and kind. It really is effective for people like me who have come into this not knowing where they would like to go.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My Programme is very well organised I believe. We go to college once a week and learn about something new every week. We have a lot of support in place for us when we need it, and we have a whole algorithm we follow as Apprentices with college and work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Our Employers provided as much support that is possible. I don't think I have ever been left in the dark about anything. Everyone who is meant to look out for us does so, and goes the extra mile to make sure we are okay Work wise and even mentally, always checking in and providing support to everyone and anyone who needs it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe we are given a fair amount of support when it comes to training providers, we often have meetings catching up about work and college, making sure academically we are okay and checking how we are finding our college work and giving us support and advice about the work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I won't lie, I believe that it could be better. I do sometimes find that we are learning stuff in college that maybe doesn't apply to my role in work. Some lessons do apply to my work however and they do help me and I do enjoy every lesson that is provided to me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, BBC has a vast variety of Internal Activities that all workers here can get involved in, we have football team, gaming nights in our bar and many, many meetings and training events we are able to attend. There is always the opportunity to create your own as well. We are planning our own 5 a side BBC football tournament.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • BBC is a fantastic place to work and you will always have plenty of opportunities to further your career, no matter what direction you want your career to go in the BBC has a path you can take, I cannot speak more highly of the BBC and how they treat their apprentices.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • The BBC don't hire on technical ability, of course it is great to know how to do certain things, but the BBC hire on attitude and personality. The New Talent team know what the BBC need and that is helpful and happy people who are eager to learn and work as part of a team.
