My role within the bar is a supervisors so I deal with the day to day duties which will include. 1) start off day and end off day 2) cashing up 3) supervising staff 4) doing any jobs manger wants doing 5) making sure the shift runs smooth without no problem. Thts what's happened on a day to day shift.
Since doing this programme I have been improving on skills that I already got and also making a new skills in which I didn't have which is great. I have learnt new skills within the bar and cellar I already had skills which are improving daily. The best skill I learnt so far is dealing with a customer complaint and the best way off dealing with the situation.
So doing this programme is making me see things totally different I didn't know half the stuff that we have gone threw. But my learner has gone threw the stuff I done quickly and for us on the stuff that I don't know which helps me out alot then going threw everything.
The structure off the programme is really good it has kept me going and has also kept really interested within the course. I have difficulties sometimes off keeping on track with my work and it has kept me going as its something different everytime and not all the same and my trainer knows I get distracted easy to make sure that I am in a quiet area as much as possible.
Since I done my course my manager hasn't really helped me with any off it unless i have asked a question once or twice. I try and get him involved but he don't tend to have the time for it. After my trainer goes I always tell him how I am doing.
When doing all my course work that my trainer gives me my trainer let's me do it myself but does gives me sheets to help me within in the email I get. When we meet she goes threw my work and points out if it's right and were i can improve.
Before I started my apprenticeship I was not too confident I was confident behind the bar but I wasnt confident on the floor. Since then I have improved in all different areas , I go on the floor alot more and also deal alot more with the customers. My manager is saying I am improving more and more all the time.
In the pub itself we have 3 pool team in which 2 off them won there league and have been promoted. We have just had another pool team start and we are also looking for a girls team as well. We have a girls football team as well who is trying to get me involved too. We have a mens football team too.
Yes
Its a great company to work for and if you get the right boss it runs smooth. There is so many different opportunities within the company starting with just a bar staff all the way up to ops manager. They also got the apprenticeship scheme which also great and has a lot off opportunities within it.
I would just tell them to make sure they know what job there getting into as working behind a bar can be hard work at times. When working make sure that you are having fun behind the bar. I love working behind a bar and making all the customer's happy and that what I would tell people the best way off making the work place happy is being happy yourself.
