  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Business Assistant in Production Management for Radio 1, 1Xtra and Asian Network, I work to handle business needs for the in-house production teams. My role covers business continuity, recording and processing expenses for artists and contributors, managing department HR queries including leave, staffing, and recruitment. On top of this I have looked at the creation and maintenance of budgets.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I have enhanced my interpersonal and communication skills, which has allowed me to build trustworthy rapports and maintain relationships with people from a range of cultures and backgrounds. In addition to these soft skills, I have developed unique industry and organisational skills which has enabled me to make the most of my placements.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme itself is very demanding, both in and out of work hours. It almost becomes your lifestyle. However, with that being said I have found myself being able to benefit from opportunities that have arisen as a result of being on the program, which is certainly a bonus. Ultimately, I think the programme becomes what you make it, if you are prepared to get involved in a range of activities then you will enjoy your time as a result.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programmed is well structured in a sense there is a clear route that is set for you to follow. Although my personal desires are taken into account, I think they could be more the focus of the scheme. I understand that there is a certain degree of flexibility, it's just a case of finding a happy medium between the organisations needs and your own personal desires.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In terms of allowing me the time, resources, and space to concentrate on the academic side of the apprenticeship I feel supported by both my line and scheme managers. Through my job role I am also pushed by my line manager to reach some of the apprenticeship standards that also allow me to develop professionally in align with the BBC's own career path framework.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Personally, due to my preferred learning style I believe I would be able to benefit from increased face to face contact with my tutors and lecturers. They are readily available over email, but sometimes when you have a query about something that has been on on your mind then email isn't best suited. I am assigned a skills coach who I can call, and regularly catch up with, however they are unable to provide specific answers to questions concerning module content.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The assignments I complete are based very much on the context of me in my department and organisation, and so help me generate relevant insights into how the knowledge relates and benefits the organisation as a whole. Further to this. the end qualification will mean I have the relevant knowledge and understanding to complete my tasks well and to an excellent standard.
