  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a project management apprentice I spend a lot of time shadowing industry experts who explain what they are doing along the way so I can pick up on good things they are doing and things I would maybe do differently. I attend and facilitate meetings, giving me opportunity to expand on skill sets. I also assist in creating, developing and improving documentation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This apprenticeship has developed my communication skills as I can communicate more effectively and efficiently. I have also seen an increase in my confidence as previously I struggled to speak to large groups of people but now I feel I am able to do this and don't hesitate to facilitate my own meetings or speak up in meetings.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the new skills I am developing from my apprenticeship, both personally and from the team I am in. I love that my apprenticeship has boosted my confidence and ability to speak in front of groups. I spend my free time reading up on my area and find myself interested in documentaries or articles about my area and company.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well structured and follows a set path that is easy to follow. When anything is planned, it is always planned in advance. We have set days to be in work and to be in university so it keeps us in a good routine. We are given templates for any new work we need to complete.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have my employers support whenever I need it and they always check in to see how I am on a regular basis. If I am struggling with anything I know I can talk to pretty much anyone in the company and they will offer me their advice and expertise.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider provides strong support. They have a set time frame to respond to any queries which is good, I know my queries will always be answered in a timely manner. Educational support is provided by them if I am struggling on how to do something they have asked me to do. My training provider also provides mental health support which is a strong advantage for them because students often struggle with pressures of deadlines and personal difficulties.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification provides the theory and skill set for my career area. When I go back to the work place I am able to put this theory into practice. By moving around different placements I am able to collect knowledge from lots of different areas of the business. My employer and training provider are well aligned.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of sports teams and there are often professional networking events such as lunch time lectures and after work conferences. I am able to attend any of these and they are run on a regular basis. An improvement would maybe be to advertise these more to the workforce.
