  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in an office and help carry out a project support role, this can be shadowing my placement manager who is typically a project manager. I help produce and write documentation for projects and attend meetings to discuss project related matters. I often shadow people around me and I am given my own roles to take responsibility for.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I definitely have became more confident as I have came straight from school into a full time working environment, so I have learnt what it is like to have a job role and work in an office. I am learning the processes that are unique to my business and understanding how things work and are done. I am attending university 1 day a week to complete my degree where I am learning all the theory behind my apprenticeship which is realy speeding up the learning.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme as I get to go to uni once a week which helps me learn the basics that are often complex in the business I am in. Attending uni while in placement allows me to learn this theory and put it into practice. I also get to move round different placements which keeps the scheme engaging and new to give me a range of experience and knowledge.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a fair bit of support by line management that assist us with both uni and placement which they don't have to di but is really beneficial, they also ensure your placement is organised and okay. Your placement manager and everyone in the office are appreciative of apprentices and support the programme and are happy to take their time to help you.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my mine managers as they know what we are doing when and offer help if we need it. We can ask to have a day out of placement and work in their office if we feel we are behind in uni work. However it can feel abit hard when you are busy in placement, doing things for your line management and have deadlines.. you are often stretched.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it helps a lot as we are learning all the theory behind project management, which directly relates to what we are doing in placement and it is the same chartered body that the business apply to their project management, so everyone has the same fundamental understanding. I often can see after I have learnt something I notice it at my company.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are events and talks that you can attend/ get involved with for project management which are good to go to and meet people in the industry and learn about their experience. I am going to London for an eventto speak myself so there are really big opportunities. There are lots of local events and charities to get involved in too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Sellafield Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel that their schemes are well structured as they are carefully planned out to ensure you benefit the most you can and there is a lot of time and effort put into you when other businesses may treat you like a normal employee who should know what they at doing or brand new and incapable Here the apprenticeships are set up to ensure you get good bits of relevant work to do to ensure you aren't left to do nothing.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sellafield Ltd?
  • research into the scheme you are looking at make sure it is tailored to you as it will be life changing and will require a lot of time and effort. If you get an interview research the company, the apprenticeship details, the industry and think of some examples of when you have used skills that you may have to use in the job eg communication, teamwork ( bad examples aren't a bad thing, just say how they were learnt from).
