my role involves training to become a suitably qualified and experienced welding inspector in the nuclear industry. The role involves ensuring that the correct oversight and insurance is taken during work activities by the company and its supply chain. My day to day activities include inspection before, during and after welding has been carried out.
I have learnt some of the following key skills which are Important for my role. NDT Weld inspection before, during and after Quality control activates Quality assurance activities I have gained key qualifications required for my role including Magnetic particle inspection and dye penetrant inspection I have gained 2 years of experience working on a nuclear site
I enjoy most aspects of my programme. I enjoy the hands of and practical work involved with the role and building my knowledge and understanding for the trade. Some things I do not enjoy is that work can often be slow and there are often periods of time where work load is low
the programme is structured so that we as apprentices are put on 3 month placements in different areas of the department working with current employees and subject experts. This is generally well organised however sometimes we do not find out until last minute leading to uncertainty regarding training requirements etc.
I believe that I receive the necessary support from my employer when needed. I feel confident to approach my line manager if I am uncertain or have any questions. I sometimes receive feedback on my work quality and offered additional training in order to improve and expand my knowledge and understanding.
Gen2 provide a suitable amount of support however I felt in the past that when attending gen2 for my hnc the support given from lectures was minimal and they did not offer support in any way. I feel that this is a big improvement point which needs to be made by the training provider
the qualifications which I receive as part of my apprenticeship are vital to ensure that I am able to carry out my role effectively. The training which which I have received was to a good standard and I feel it has benefitted substantially. doing welding with my training provider was particularly important as it gave me a greater understanding of my current role
I believe there are extra-curricular activities available to get involved with through the apprentice council etc. however I do not take part in these activates as I already do so in my spare time. if I did not already take part in such things its definitely something I would consider
Yes
