  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Part of the attraction to this apprenticeship is that there are no fixed roles as such. Within the BBC we move around departments gaining experience in a very hands on manner. The roles we are within can vary quite massively and are adaptable depending on the apprentice's interests. these can range from Camera work to office based production management.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt a variety of new skills ranging from Camera work to editing audio and video. The apprenticeship has also allowed me to develop my organisational skills and to taught me how to better manage my work load. If there are specific production skills you wish to learn the BBC have been adaptable and willing to help you secure more training.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme greatly - I've met a variety of interesting people with whom I intend to maintain lasting relationships with. there is a tremendous sense of working as a team which helps productions run in an efficient and friendly manner. This aligns perfectly with my aspirations to have a balanced work and social life.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Throughout the training and induction process it was clear that there would be above adequate levels of support throughout the apprenticeship. the goals of the apprenticeship are clearly set out and managed. Working within our teams there is a clear hierarchy which helps working relationships in general, should any issues arrive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our tutor within college is always supportive and happy to resolve issues or concerns should the arise. In terms of accessibility I've been given unrivaled support to help me get the most out of the apprenticeship. I've enjoyed and am enjoying the apprenticeship greatly. I fee there is a great attitude towards apprentices

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that our training has helped us gain a better understanding of the industry as a whole. Whilst the BBC is a large and varied organisation they as a public body cannot be expected to offer a wider view of the television industry. The training has prepared us for the intricacies of Freelancing.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Whilst on the apprenticeship we are as any others BBC employees therefore the full range of BBC perks and activities are open to us. This includes Gym memberships among other things. We have been included in Choirs and other socialising activities there are often invites to networking events that we can partake in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's an incredibly welcoming and varied organisation. Even if your main focus isn't working in television there are many opportunities that would be an attractive career prospect. I personally have found the work to be both interesting and varied. There is also clear opportunity for growth within the organisation.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • I found the initial application process to be intensive and somewhat difficult however I consulted with people from similar organisations to better understand what a good candidate would look like. Within the assessment day itself i was keen to make sure that others were contributing and that everyone got a chance to be heard as dominating conversations can often be a bad move.
