  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day-to-day role changes constantly, giving me the chance to experience so many different aspects of the industry. Sometimes I am in the office, casting potential contributors, filing emails, creating maps to help find locations and many other things. Other days I am all over the country, my role being a runner, helping the flow of the production, logging, getting consent, chatting with the police or Bargain Hunt contributors. It's very varied and always exciting.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed so many skills so far on the apprenticeship. My organisation and communication skills have drastically improved, as well as technical skills. The huge range of different things the job includes means I am constantly developing. My knowledge of the industry, as well of antiques and crime is so much bigger.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really love it. I have had so many great experience and can always go home with great stories to tell. As well as loving the job, I have made many great friends through the programme. I enjoy coming into work and am excited by the challenges I know I will be faced with, as there is always plenty of support and guidance.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured, with blocks of learning but plenty of time to settle into each different production. There is great support system structure within the programme and plenty of room to get more opportunities. It is well organised in terms of both supporting you both with work and personal needs.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I can receive a lot of support through my employer, through colleagues, management and also specially implemented staff support services. My employers have been very supportive and have tried to find opportunities to help me develop. They let me try a range of roles to let me find out what route I would like to take in the industry.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider can be very supportive, and have staff in place who have helped when in tricky situations, to help with both work and personal issues. As the training provider is very specialist, it really focuses on our needs and has industry professionals who will understand the media specific terminology.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification does not always relate heavily to my own role at work, and is the most frustrating part of the apprenticeship. There are certain aspects of the qualification which are useful, such as development in selling yourself i.e. writing media specific CVs and looking at employment prospects. I feel this aspect of the apprenticeship could be improved, but i am aware this is not an issue from my employer or training provider, rather the education board.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra-curricular activities offered. The include networking events, training courses, social events with colleagues and sports activities. I am not aware of the full extent of the extra-curricular activities offered, as there are so many social events amongst coworkers. It is a great community to be apart of.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is an extremely supportive employer who will help you to develop yourself. It is well structured with a great community of staff and the content you help to create is that that you can be proud of. I have already recommended BBC to many others as it is such a inclusive workforce and people from all backgrounds are welcomed.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • They always say to be yourself, and it's true. They want those who are excited by the prospect of the industry and willing to bring forward who they are to the community. They appreciate individual personalities and who you are as a person and the skills you can bring. They are always looking for new and innovative ways of creating content. They also appreciate those who are genuine.
