  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have got a few basic skills and knowledge when starting the role from doing Alevel business studies in 6th form. I have been able to develop this knowledge to a more advanced level as well as cater it more towards finance rather than general business studies., I have learnt a list of new vocabulary and acronyms as well.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my program. HSBC have been very welcoming and inclusive. I don't feel any different to all the other employees I work with who aren't apprentices. I have met lots of new people from different roles who have happily explained to me their role and what they do for HSBC.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is pretty well structured but there was a few hiccups with my job role and how it was matching the criteria of the apprenticeship I was taking. As I don't deal with direct customers, we found it difficult to see how we could reach that part off the criteria which required evidence of dealing with customers. We have found a way to alter to this to my role.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support, especially from my colleagues who don't have to help me and support me as much as they do. They use a lot of their time to support me. We often have one to one meetings with managers and team meetings. We also have exchanges with other roles to compare roles and what we could do to help each other out.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive good support from my mentor, I am able to contact him when needed and we catch up officially once a month. We catch up to raise queries, compare progress and go through what we could be doing to improve. I have found these very helpful in understanding my work,

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is good as it teaches me things that I can use in my day to day role. I can learn things such as lending products and then use this in my knowledge needed in my job role. This also helps to build the basic k knowledge that I may not specifically need to know, but it is helpful that I do know it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have occasional team outings that we attend and offsite. these are good at helping to meet new people and build relationships. We often attend workshops and trainings which are voluntary, these are very helpful at improving skills and learning new things that can then help to progress your career.

  • 9a. Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • At HSBC, there are so many opportunities. The apprenticeships such a good way to get your foot in the door and start building your network. There are lots of learning opportunities as well as lots of different roles to explore and later on, possibly go in to. You can easily try out other roles by doing a join me day.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • At HSBC, diversity is very important. So when attending your interview or phone calls, be yourself, because that is what they want. Prepare to be asked tricky questions where they would like to hear you give different types of answers, not the typical ones. Also be open to learning new things as that is where you can really make the most of HSBC vast opportunities.
