  • My job role involves reviewing and assessing payment applications sent in by subcontractors we hire on our project. It also involves updating cost sheets, so we can see how much we are spending as a company. Updating time sheets, and making payments

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • When in Leeds during our 3 month college blocks we completed our level 3 diploma. During this I learnt a range of new skills on both sides of construction. Where I currently am on site I have learnt skills such as managing cost and shadowing QS's.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed every day of the programme, creating great friend and developing skills that will help strive in my long career ahead.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well organised. BAM have a apprenticeship team which will visit you frequently while your at college and try to keep contact once your on site. They work closely with the college so the staff members will also provide extra help with your work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • BAM Nuttall will provide all the support you need, such as providing you with the chance to go on a range of courses to develop your skills that you might struggle with at the beginning. Your team once placed on site will guide you and provide any help needed.

  • 9/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • 9/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Through my college block the big group we had started and football team on Wednesday nights. There are also golf society events. A number of social outings that your site will take you on as team building exercises. BAM will also subsidise any social events you might want to take part in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend this apprenticeship because I believe this is the best way to enter this industry, gaining both on site experience as well as a Level 5 diploma and the chance to do a degree at the end. You also get paid and do not gain debt.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • Be extremely vocal and list as many times you have worked well in a team. Team work is really important with bam.
