  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on a variety of programmes and outputs across the station from a phone-in to a new music show and more. I am responsible for a variety of tasks both in and out of studio and have gained an incredible amount of experience. No one day is the same.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed an incredible number of new skills from practical with respects to operating never-used-before software, hardware and more. Additionally, I've learnt how to produce scripts, book guests and more all within a professional and respected organisation. If ever I require additional skills or training I feel confident that the BBC would be able to provide this to me.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I fully enjoy the programme and would highly recommend it to anyone who is passionate about the radio industry or the media as a whole. Its one of the biggest broadcasters in Britain and the world and fills me with an incredible level of pride and passion. There's such a variety of day-to-day tasks to make every day exciting too.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Considerably. We clearly have set times where we operate with our learning provider and have clear and regular catch-ups. I also have a very clear understanding of when I will be moving to the next block of my apprenticeship and what show I might be working on at any given time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have a fantastic level of support! I receive support from my managers, members of the team and even my personal mentor. All of this support is greatly appreciated and is easily received. I often simply send an email suggesting a catch-up with a senior member of the team and within a few days I am having said catch-up.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from the training provider is helpful with clear times dedicated across the year to visit the training provider. However, the support can be delayed due to the minimal number of assessors. Nevertheless, I can always ask for help if needed and feel as the work is well balanced with level of work required and difficulty.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is rather extensive although does tie in very logically and nicely with the day-to-day activities of the apprenticeship. The qualification can be answered in a number of ways which is beneficial as it questions often lend themselves to be answered in different manners. This may include having a recorded discussion, video or more.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The BBC offers great extra-curricular activities such as attending career fairs, undertaking additional training and more. My BBC apprenticeship manager is great with this and often asks for our assistance on a number of events and is open to suggestions from us regardless of how extensive it may be and it's much appreciated.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a fantastic position to gain a wide variety of skills from industry professionals and is a highly respected organisation producing some of Britain's best content. Due to the BBC producing such high quality content I find my self being in a very powerful position to seek employment within the radio industry.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • Believe in yourself! You can often find yourself daunted by the gigantic organisation that is the BBC although put down all your experience and skills and really express them, despite how big the BBC is, they need new talent! Write absolutely everything down in the application and you will be surprised with yourself.
