  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Complete training and mentor guides within various areas of ICT within the business. These roles range through the different areas and each placement lasts from 8-10 weeks. Work can vary within each placement however all of the placements follow a similar type of structure and usually culminate by giving a presentation to the department to express findings from the placements.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a variety of skills so far in my degree apprenticeship. The skills tend to differ slightly per placement however I feel I have gained valuable transferable skills from each placement. One of these skills is my ability to problem solve. I have been able to develop how I approach and act upon a problem.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • There have been various placements which I have enjoyed more than others. The placements I have enjoyed more have been enjoyed more due to the fact I have an interest to work within that particular area within the future. Overall I enjoy coming to work as each day is a new challenge.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The scheme has a clear structure that me and my co-workers have followed since day one. The placements we undertake have a clear time schedule that so far has been stuck to. Having a clear structure as to where you will be based is useful as I know what to expect when I come to work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer always goes the extra mile in providing me with any support or guidance I need whether it is work or education related. One day a week is allocated to attending college to complete my degree, where any help I need to always given promptly, helping me to improve areas I am unsure about.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My employer provides with me with the relevant training and support in order for myself to achieve my foundation degree. If I am stuck my employer will provide me with necessary contacts or documents in order to support my learning. This was also the case when I was based within the workshop working towards a PEO alongside my Degree.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification that I am working towards is useful for my job as it is providing me with the necessary skills and knowledge regarding how my role works within the larger picture. Without working towards my qualification it would be difficult to see the real life applications of my role within the workplace.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a number of different extra-curricula activities that you are able to get involved in within my work. These include things like helping out at open events to educate members of the public about my role and how they can go about applying for the same role if they are interested.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Sellafield Ltd to a friend as it provides an interesting range of different areas of work to get involved in. Each day provides me with a new challenge or obstacle that I have to use my skillset to try and tackle. It is a role with lots of benefits.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sellafield Ltd?
  • When applying for Sellafield it is important that you build-up a portfolio of previous work experience and skills that you would be able to transfer across to Sellafield Ltd. This can be a range of different things such as how you have approached problems in the past and in what manner you have accessed what needs to be done to overcome them.
