  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I go to the site that I have been assigned to and set up at my desk, I start working on tasks assigned to me and then wait or message my instructor to find out what I will be doing for the day and any assignments or tasks I need to complete.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have developed IT skills and social skills from working with multiple different people and developed my confidence. I have learnt many new skills from my placements both from the people I have met and the tasks I have been assigned as they cover a large range giving me skills across the board

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme more than I would have ever expected, the programme is well planned out and engaging, and the mentors are always helpful and seem enthusiastic to help and teach me. It is very interesting as there is always new things to learn and do rather than doing pointless tasks.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme runs seamlessly and there always seems to be a plan of what we are going to be doing, everything is planned ahead and nothing is rushed or double booked meaning there's never stress over something not being planned correctly or a meeting being missed and other such things.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employers have meetings with us and go through what we have been through and if we have any concerns or are uncomfortable or struggling. The employers support us and we can contact them at any time if we need any help or guidance in any way with either work or mental health or other issues.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider offer sessions once a week and allow us to email ahead so that our course leaders can prepare some personalised revision or help for us if we are struggling in a particular section. They offer help in lesson and check that we know what we are doing and not falling behind so that they know if we need help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The work role and the qualification are different in the sense that I do not get training currently that directly relates to my job role, which means that I don't feel that it is helping with the role but actually making the role more stressful having to learn completely different subjects alongside it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are little to no extra curricular activities other than the occasional Apprentice Challenge which seems to be directed at the other apprentices more than us, it would be nice to have some extra curricular activities especially sports teams to encourage people to stay healthy especially when we are working in an office environment.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Sellafield Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Overall they are a good employer and listen to your concerns, there are some downfalls such as extracurricular but nothing that makes the apprenticeship more difficult or harder to do. The opportunities and range of skills and confidence you will learn is very good and useful for a work life

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sellafield Ltd?
  • The people at Sellafield are generally very nice and interesting people to meet, the workplace is friendly and you'll receive support if you need it. Apply for multiple things as if you don't get your dream job on the first try you can still get in and have a good apprenticeship and possibly move over to your dream job after a while working for the company.
