1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

8/10

My role usually involves working with engineers to produce technical drawings using CAD software. Having some input into the design aspects of each project I work on.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

8/10

Being an apprentice at Arup has made me a much more rounded person, constantly contributing to my academic knowledge, work based skills such as CAD, understanding of design principles and my confidence.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

6/10

Being a degree apprentice is a lot more hard work than it is fun and games. Finding time to study whilst working full time is tricky, but not impossible. Although working in the industry does give me access to people who will have answers to any questions relating to my studies.

4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

9/10

The management behind organising a large team of apprentices is mostly very good, but being the first cohort through the degree apprenticeship sometimes communication between work managers and University is difficult.

5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

10/10

There is always support available either from apprentices at the same level, managers and even directors.

6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

6/10

Currently the support is available but difficult for us to take full advantage of because as an apprentice you are only in university 1 day a week.

7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

7/10

Studying a civil engineering degree directly relates to the work I do on a daily basis. Although some of the subjects we study are not necessarily applied in the work place.

Yes there are several sport clubs including the Arup football world cup, where teams from offices all over the world gather for a 2 day football tournament.
