  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Introduction to the company, could have been handled better, this was not helped by transition of staff. Training is generally well supported, college courses are fully organised. Mentoring system depends on the department. Meetings with key early careers staff occur from time to time. Generally the programme is well organised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager gives me help and guidance whenever required. The HR team is able to support on issues that relate to them. The team i work with always offer their support and will give support even when I know they are busy! If I have a problem and I don't know the best way to sort it, a member of the team I work with are able to provide guidance.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Unfortunatley, for the duaration of the apprenticeship so far, the training provider's service has been poor. For the last two years the assessed work (assignments) have been not distrubuted well throughout the year. This means a significant portion of the year's work has been handed towards the end of the year. This causes undue stress and worry for students.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • To be honest, the links between what I learn at college and what I do at work are poor. There are very few concepts I learn at college and can relate to the workplace. However, completing a PEO qualification has given me a good base understanding that I would have missed if I'd gone to uni!

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are many clubs and societies to join. The sports facilty onsite allows for fitness classes, football etc. Throughout the year, the early careers team organise visits to sisters sites, for tours and training courses. Also, there are regular charity events, including sponsored walks, bike rides and coffee mornings.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have enjoyed my apprenticeship so far due to many factors. I have found the staff at BAE systems to be very helpful and enjoy helping out where they can. Also, the range of projects that BAE covers gives plenty of scope for development and learning. The culture promotes safety and encouarges everyone to contrbute and give thier best.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • It is important to give plenty of time to complete the application forms in. Include the most relevant of information (qualifications and experience). For the interview, dress appropriately (i.e smart) and be confident. Also, it is good if you ask questions about the role, this shows you are interested!
