  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm a home claims, insurance recovery handler. I manage a caseload of around 200 cases and pursue subrogated recoveries and contributions. I work closely with our home insurance claims department, our loss adjusters, surveyors and contractors to manage the claim and gather evidence to support the recovery. I also coach the claims department to identify a recovery and gather evidence to support any recovery.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt how to manage an insurance claim by working more closely with our claims department to understand the process and loss adjusters to understand their role in the insurance claim and how they can support the recovery process. I have spent time with our underwriting department I learnt more about our pricing structure and how our policing prices are calculated.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme its opened my eyes to the world of insurance instead of just home insurance. I have enjoyed exploring the difference between property insurance claims and commercial property insurance claims and the rules of average. I've also enjoyed the way the programme makes you explore other areas in more depth as I've experienced loss adjuster visits and underwriting principles with the underwriting team where as if I was not on the programme i'm not sure I would have explored these areas.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme started quite badly, We were initially registered onto the apprenticeship in December but our Kaplan tutor was leaving the company and failed to carry out our initial registration properly, we then were allocated a temporary tutor after chasing Kaplan a number of times. Our temporary tutor managed to get us started on the programme but the level of support was quite limited until we were allocated a more constant tutor. After this I have had a structured plan with regular reviews and the experience has greatly improved

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been brilliant. I have regular one to ones with my line manager and we regularly discuss the programme. there have been no problems scheduling my 20% off the job development time and I have been fully supported with all development opportunities. My team leader has also taken part in some of my Kaplan reviews and given me fantastic feedback

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor is always on hand for any queries and has provided me with revision session towards my exam where i am tested on my knowledge as well as providing mock exams. My tutor is very proactive with booking training sessions and reviews and has visited my office on a number of occasions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am more aware of the FCA requirements and the role of other areas of the business. The experienced has helped me become more involved in the claims team role to support subrogated recoveries. I think the qualification has helped me greatly and is extremely good for my development. I've enjoyed it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I take part in a skills event where I attend a local high school who are approaching GCSE years and I talk to them about their career prospects and goals and i talk to about my experiences and skills. We also have networking events where we can meet other people within the business and possibly gain a mentor or become a mentor.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Its an excellent company to work for. The group has good benefits, good pay, excellent development opportunities such as this apprenticeship and also they really value their colleagues which makes a massive difference. The group is very inclusive, caring and rewarding which all makes it a great place to work.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lloyds Banking Group?
  • I would tell others to go for it. Be brave, be bold and go for it. Apply for the role and really excel, be actively involved and seek development opportunities as there are plenty available and seen a mentor who will support you with your career goals. Working for Lloyds is an excellent opportunity.
