  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role is very varied and includes a lot of client work. The Birmingham apprenticeship is rotational. I am currently in more of a compliance role with the view of progressing to more of an advisory role later on in the programme. Therefore, I do a lot of tax computations and data collection but also working on different clients in high performing teams.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I think the programme allows you to develop a lot of new skills very quickly. You are given a lot of responsibility fairly quickly, so you need to develop your time management and organisational skills very quickly. You also need to have effective communication and make sure you speak efficiently to your team about your workload.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed being on the graduate scheme a lot so far. I also enjoy studying for exams and working towards the end goal of becoming qualified as it gives you something additional to work towards. The support and teams are amazing and I am very happy at Deloitte. It also feels like I have been supported on the programme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised. We are given our exam timetable in advance, which is very useful so you can plan your work load. It is rotational, so we rotate around the different teams. I think this is slightly less organised as I do not know when I am next rotating! The work from the team is slightly slow to come but they are organised in the sense of managing team work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel I am very supported at work both from my team and management. You are given your coach and a people leader which helps know who are the right people to go to when you need additional support at work. You also are given plenty of time off and support for your exams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A huge amount of support. We get paid study leave and college is sorted out through Kaplan and Deloitte. I feel we are given more than enough time off and the people at Deloitte will always make sure that work isn't interfering with studying for your qualifications so would say very happy with the support

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it is very useful especially doing accounting so early on which allows you to understand the compliance process and makes reading accounts much easier. As the exams get harder it will be useful to know how the complex tax knowledge and my exams work together to help understand this

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of clubs that you can get involved in. We have a café culture on the first Friday of the month which allows people to get together and have some free food and drink. There are also plenty of opportunities to get into student recruitment and if you have a particular passion outside of work Deloitte usually support you to keep this up

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great company to work for. The culture is great and graduates across the UK seem to be very happy here. There is an ever growing culture of flexible working and the support you receive here is second to none. The rotations scheme also gives you the chance to see all parts of corp tax.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Just put all into your applications and interview. A typical successful Deloitte candidate is very well rounded so make sure to put all your interests on your application. I think its also good to have good commercial awareness before you start as this is something you are expected to have. Also don't worry if you didn't do an ACFI degree, as you will learn it all in your exams
