  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • i assist with day to day financial information. along with my role i help with forecasting and reporting, some of the reporting i do includes balance sheet reviews and p&l, this has helped the teams i have been in as they can visibly see how they have performed in the period and the FYF so they can better see what the yearly outturn will be.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have improved my excel skills, by doing this i have been able to recreate many reports in the many teams i have been in, the reason i have recreated these reports is due to poor visiblity and slow files, therefore i have created new files and rpeorts to sort these issues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i enjoy the programme a lot as it allows me to see all areas of the bus i ness and therefore gain a better experience, by doing the pro gramme i have also been able to gain a degree, this has then allowed me to better myself and be a better part of the company.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • it is very structured, the programme is structured very well, this is because they set the structure of strongly from the start, our structure is go to work, go to college once a week and take an exam, go to work, go to college once a week and take an exam, go to work, go to college once a week and take an exam.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • i receive a lot of support, the support i receive is very good, if i have an issue i can speak to my manager, if i feel i am not getting support i can speak to my manager, this has helped me to grow my confidence because of the support

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • lots and lots and lots of support, they provide a lot of support, this is because we have to study, but a long side the study we also have a portfolio that we have to prepare for, this portfolio includes all things such as knowledge parts, behavioural parts and skill parts.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i feel i learn lots and lots from the training provider that has helped me to perform better at work, i have learned what an accrual is, what a prepayment is and what the tax laws are, this has helped me to perform better and to be a better individual at work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • when i first started there was a football league that i was part of, however due to the rain and weather it disbanded however they are going to start it again in the summer, there is also a golf society and hockey society that get together and play golf or go to hockey games

  • 9a. Would you recommend Network Rail to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • it is a great place to work, it pays well and you learn alot, the people are nice and the building is cool, i have never been in an office that has its own w h smith and its really cool, however i have started to eat too many sweets because of it.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
  • none just go for it and dont look back just given it your all because once you are in you will not look back ever, it has lots of opportunities and many fun areas, there is tonnes of support and lots of great parts to it. just apply and you never know what might happen
