  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • During my apprenticeship my duties and roles have increased drastically over time starting by mainly shadowing more senior engineers, moving on to helping out with small jobs such as editing screens, helping to test systems etc. to now writing full documents, working with HMIs and SCADA systems and code and testing systems myself.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout my apprenticeship I have learned some valuable skills that will be able to help me in my career as an engineer. These skills include programming and design of systems. I have also developed my problem solving skills drastically as well as my use of hand tools and also more basic computer software's such as word and excel

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed the apprenticeship programme that I am on as it has allowed me to learn so many new things that I would have not previously had a chance to learn from going to different sites, working with different people and courses I have been able to go on.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In my opinion, the programme I have been a part of for the last 4 years is very well structured with everything from college courses and separate training courses through work and due to this well organised structured programme I have found it very easy to learn what I need to know.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The level of support that I regularly receive from work colleagues and my employers in my opinion is more than adequate and has helped me achieve high grades during college and with other courses and also to produce high quality work for my company by helping me problem solve and also providing me with tips and information for things I haven't done before.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The level of support that I regularly receive from my training providers in my opinion is more than adequate and has helped me achieve high grades during college and with other courses and also to produce high quality work for my company by helping me problem solve and also providing me with tips and information for things I haven't done before.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications I have received from various courses have supplied me with a vast knowledge of lots of different areas of the role I work with in and this has allowed me to perform to the best of my ability in the role I am currently in within the company I work for.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Currently there are no extra curricular activities in place within my working environment however there has been social events held by the company in the past and also there has been sports teams (football) both in 5 aside leagues and against other people within the company that I was able to take part in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The courses I have been on through Siemens have been excellent and well put together with friendly staff and have helped me learn a lot about siemens programming that has helped me within my own company. The apprenticeship team have always been helpful also and replied to emails quickly and came in to see me and the other apprentices whenever necessary.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • Tips I would give to anyone else who is thinking about doing so or currently actually applying for a siemens apprenticeship would be to take advantage of all the courses you are able to go on and make sure to make the most of them as they are very informative and insightful
