  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently I am heavily involved with data and people management, so managing absences, employee comments with anything they find difficult, liaising with supervisors to help ensure all operatives are up to date with all process. However this is only for the first few month. I also am working with the customer to help improve some of their data sheets, which has opened me up to seeing more of what the customer do to.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have already been on a course to learn about the company and where they see the company's future, I am also attending a Manager's course in the coming weeks, to understand what type of manager the company expects, this will help me a lot when i become a manger. I have developed my presentation and communication skills heavily.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work I currently do I enjoy a lot as I can see how some people may not work to their best ability and how some do. The team I work with are very supportive and helpful, they also have looked after me and made sure that I am comfortable in the environment. The company culture is very positive around me. Overall I think coming in I was nervous however now I feel like I'm apart of the team and I do enjoy it

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My induction to the site was amazing, I was given a chance to go around every single block to see what they do. I have been given appropriate training and the support, especially being given a day release to complete my uni work. I have a meeting with my mentor every two weeks, as well a lot of support from my line manager

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My direct line manager will be changing every 3 months as I move around the business, however my current line manager has been very supportive and given me the time that I needed from him to sit with me and show me the things that I needed to see. I havent really needed support from the HR team so Cannot comment on this. My mentor was the one that arranged the site induction and has planned out my 4 year apprenticeship programme, He is been very supportive is helping me with my concerns and any questions I have had.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have 2 tutors at the moment, one for academic module and one for work based module. I think there has been a little lack of communication with meetings, which has been difficult to rearrange and figure out, however hopefully it was just a one off. Overall there attitude to help and reply quickly is very efficient, I am enjoying the flexibility of being able to work whenever I can and want to, and not being tied down to attending lectures at a certain time every week.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • what I am learning will eventually help me in my role as a manger, at the moment the work placed module has only started but from what I have seen it seems that it will be very beneficial to me. I feel that from my learning I have gone into more detail about topics such as finace, marketing and social issues. But I know that it will soon become a lot more relevant to my day to day job

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are a few at my site, such as a Yoga club after work one of the days. I am attending a networking event in April, to help extend my contacts with some of the bigger managers within the company. Also if I was to do anything outside of work it is also highly recognised and logged

  • 9a. Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel I have been supported a lot more here than i would have if I was to just go to Uni or just go into a full time job. Also I feel that I will get a lot further in my career by working with DHL, as there are so many contracts I could go work for that I know there will always be a place for me.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
  • The application process was very straight forward and i think easier to go through than others I went through, the interviews were formal but also very calming and I didn't feel as nervous as some of the other. The support that I received via telephone was very efficient and actually helped me prepare a lot for the interview. I think I would have liked to be told about how big the company actually is, and liked to understand more about how DHL have many contracts they have.
