Trainee Broadcast Engineer. On placements we work with real departments doing real work (I worked in the Broadcast Support Centre working with real local radio stations in their times of need) and we do a lot of training with BBC Academy and Birmingham City University
Lots! Networking, computing, programming, video production, audio production, virtualisation, broadcast distributions, broadcast workflows. Communication skills, diagnostics and problem solving, time management have all benefited too
The company is fantastic, the culture is great. It exceeded my expectations and I have recommended the course to many others
extremely, a lot of time and effort is put into our development and training. We are supported by everyone in the business and treated like real staff.
Study and work is kept fairly separate so time management is easy. Management staff offer a lot of support which helps. I have not had a mentor but have felt sufficiently supported by all staff so has not affected me
Birmingham City University staff are busy so trying to get hold of people can be difficult. but all questions are answered eventually. BBC training staff are faultless and very supportive
More than enough, no mentoring scheme but I have not felt short changed by this as all staff are supportive.
All travel costs and accommodation costs when not working at work base are covered. Salary is competitive but because university fees are paid it's a great deal
Yes
It's given me a great start in a career which is difficult to get into otherwise, and I've enjoyed it!
They're looking for people to teach, not for people who know everything. Go into the assessment days as a keen individual who is passionate and mouldable
