  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I visit client sites on a daily basis auditing their financial statements. Over the four years my involvement with the overall audit has increased and I have begun taking responsibility for teams of staff – instructing them on methodology and helping with time management. I have also built on my accounting knowledge during this time

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have had the chance to strongly develop my skills in Microsoft excel – when I began my school leavers scheme I didn’t have a clue, but now I feel I have very good abilities in the program. I have learnt a lot about accounting, through both my professional education in college, and also on the job

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the variety that comes with my job. Each audit I work on lasts a few weeks, and after that you move onto the next one. This ensures a constant change in scenery and colleagues who I work with. The job varies massively on a daily basis, which prevents me from getting too bored

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Deloitte?
  • Deloitte has a good progression scheme where you are eligible for promotion every year based on you meeting expectations. After every job, you get feedback from your manager, which ensures you get recognized when you do a good job on an audit. This helps members of staff to feel valued

    8/10

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is a four year programme where exams are sat throughout. The exams are spread over the four years, and they are sat at a slower pace to graduates on the equivalent programme. I feel that it is well structured, as you gain good exposure to the job, whilst still sitting exams

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • When sitting exams, we are provided with support from the college throughout. Tutors give us access to their email address and phone number, and make themselves available after hours to questions in the lead up to exams. The tutors are very experienced and have good knowledge about the exams, which is reassuring

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Throughout the year, there are multiple performance benchmarking events. At the year-end, performance is fully evaluated, which determines eligibility for bonus/promotion. Having regular check-ins enables you to express any issues, which prevents problems from materializing. There is also an exam manager who you can talk to about any exam queries

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Salaries increase annually in line with exams sat and professional experience. Although it can be disheartening being a paygrade behind graduates of the same year group, you are still ahead of them having skipped the degree. My salary meets my costs fine as I am able to pay my bills with money left over

    8/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is a very large social culture at Deloitte. There are a number of sports clubs such as netball and softball, and there is also the opportunity to attend networking events in the area. There are work social events regularly organised, such as go ape and trampolining. We also did a sushi class once

    8/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Deloitte is a great name to have on your CV. During the four years, you learn a huge amount and the people that work at Deloitte are great. There is a big social culture, with regular events planned. If you choose to move on at the end of your training contract, having Deloitte on your CV will be a huge help

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Make sure you are willing to work hard. The application process is tough, but doable if you prepare yourself correctly. You will always have great support when sitting exams. Do your research on the business area you are applying to in advance – it always helps to know a little before you apply!
