  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is a Maintenace technician. The daily tasks included conducing Preventative and reactive maintence in three different technologys. This consists of repairing and maintaing mechanical and electrical devices. Every tuesday is a collage day where we learn about pneumatics,Engineering drawing,Materials and many more subjects.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During the apprenticeship, I have learned and developed so many skills. For example, I have learnt and understand how to build complex pneumatic Circuits, use different types of machinery like laths, Mills and pillar drills. Furthermore, I have been in a robot training course where it gave me a much better understanding on how they work and the many ways you can fix them.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has met my expectations. The teams I work with are friendly and helpful. Working with different teams is enjoyable as it gives you the oppertunity to learn differnet ways of solving problems.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BMW Group?
  • I feel very valued by BMW group becuase all team members treat you with respect and you gain internal recognition. Managers also thank us then we give them a hand for a job that needs doing.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structure. This is because we rotate through three completely different technologys every four months. The training schools offers support to those who are struggling. For example catch up maths. There is also regular meetings with the manager to discuss any concerns or problems that have occured.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provides catch up lessons to those who are either falling behind or struggling with maths. There is also meeting where you BTEC results are dicussed and they ask you if there is anything in the next three months that will effect your work. This is done so that they can help you.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer offers support to those who might have concerns with something in there working enviroment. They also offer guidence if you have any problems. Moreover, they have a good attitude towards supporting us.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary does meet my costs. This is because they offer a pay rise every six months depending on if you are up to date with your BTEC work. As my living and travel costs are quite low, the salary does meet my costs

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • A opportunitie outside of work would be the Mountain challange. Another opportunitie would be Careers events. This is where apprentices talk to people who might be interested in joining BMW apprentership. BMW group also provides a family day at plant oxford in the summer.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BMW group to a friend because there is so many good perks from being part of this company. For example, the amount of skills you develop and learn during the four year course. Moreover, BMW group provides access to the car scheme. The pay is also very good aswell.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • When applying to BMW group, I would research the company and provide all your skills to what the company is looking for in the CV. This means that you are not showing off skills that are not used in that business. Furthermore, during the assessment day you will under go team building activites, mathamatical problems and mechanical problems.
