  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • im a machine controller apprentice so on plant im responsible for a certain area of robots and machines and am responsible for their day to day maintenance. i am on my first year so am currently in the training school getting my qualifications before going on placements next year. i spend mondays doing college assignments and the rest of the week in the workshop.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have fully developed skills in hand fitting including filing, sawing, drilling and other techniques, i have also developed skills in milling, turning, welding, and have done a unit on mechanical assemblies. i am currently doing my final rotation of electrical, electronic and PLC systems. the trainers are very good from BMET college and they take great care in making sure everybody gets the best learning experience possible.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i enjoy the work load having something to do all of the time, i enjoy working with my team and the company provides great support to Birmingham metropolitan college who supply the trainers. the programme met my expectations well and i really enjoy the lay out of the programme, there is a strong process lead approach at BMW which makes it easy for people to follow and allows schemes for new ideas and gives everyone chances to enjoy themselves

  • as an apprentice i feel very well valued by bmw group as they take pride in ensuring that thewir apprentices are well looked after and that they have everything that they need in order to be successful
