  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role that I am currently in at Arup is, Apprentice project Manager. A project manager is responsible for the success of a project. A project manager has to plan, design, execute, and control a project, from start to finish. On a day-to-day basis I am assisting and leaning from qualified senior project managers on a variety of projects.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Within my apprenticeships I have learnt many new skills related to project management as well as strengthening existing skills. I have learnt many new reporting techniques and process that need to be followed within a project. Skills that I have strengthened include my literacy skills such as, spelling, grammar and vocabulary. Other skills include numeracy and my people skills

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far in my apprenticeship, I am really enjoying the role as a project manager and the programme I am current undertaking. I have enjoyed the projects I have been involved in and the people/teams I have worked with and got to know. Overall I am really enjoying the programme that I am on.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Arup?
  • Arup treat everyone as a valued member of the team. It does not matter if you are an apprentice for a manager, at Arup we are all a valuable part of the team. As an apprentice you are involved with important takes and projects from the very first day at Arup.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is/was very structured and organised from the very start. Providing an introduction session on are very first day to get to know the office and some of the people that we will be working with and what we should expect within are programme. Arup have provide support for both every day work and for studies

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provider adequate support though my studies. They provide reviews every so often with an apprenticeship coordinator to help sort out any questions about the course as a whole. You are also able to contract the tutors, through the university’s website, with any question or query about the specific module

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Arup provides a lot of support for apprentices though many different forms. Ways that Arup provides support is by providing guidance notes and presentations to assist with various day to day takes/challenges. Another way is ask someone, every apprentice get allocated a buddy/mentor, who is willing to help with any queries or questions

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Arup provide every apprentice with a competitive salary for each job role. As well as Arup providing a competitive salary they provide very good packages/benefits, such as health care and travel insurance. Overall my salary and packages/benefits meets living, travel and any social cost that I may incur over a period of time

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are loads of opportunities outside of work within Arup. There are a number of sports clubs that anyone can joint from golf, to football. There are also many opportunities to go to events, and meet new people. Arup are also very active with helping the local community, by support local charity’s and volunteering on a regular basis

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Arup to a friend that is interested or has a background in engineering and/or construction and want to continuously develop those self’s with in a successful, growing company. Arup also offer fantastic opportunity, such as travel and be part of world-wide projects that are shaping are future


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • The main bit of advice that I would to someone that are applying to Arup is to be yourself and should that you are interested and are will to learn new thing. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, majority in of people will know the answer and are willing to help
