  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I've recently become a "Software Engineer Lead", we have daily standups to discuss what work I'll be working through that day with any problems I may have. Responsibilities involve prioritizing work based on what you think, supporting your team and providing the highest quality work within deadlines.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt loads since I've started here, being a developer I've covered a majority of the technologies we use on the account, from Java with frameworks such as Spring, Hibernate and others, SQL, AngularJS, Adobe LiveCycle and loads more. Currently on the degree apprentice so I've learnt loads from Aston University too. Learn loads of things just working as a team, from communication to time management and supporting others any way you can.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My team and project is brilliant and I know I've been lucky to have such a great career so far. I enjoy most days and am still looking forward to going to work in the same place 3 years later.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Capgemini?
  • It started off rocky as an apprenticeship, as you're just left to your own devices to crack on and do what's expected; I did feel underappreciated, but once I proved myself and demonstrated what I was capable of on the account I was soon acknowledged on my potential and it's kept getting better since.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The support provided is always good, when you receive it. My main issue is with some mentors not being there to support you when you have questions, they often get ignored or receive a generic reply that is basically worthless. You are given sufficient time to study throughout the year.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As stated above, it isn't great and could definitely do with work. Often feel disconnected and left to just work through it alone, I've been quite fortunate but colleagues have had major problems as a result of this.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • This is where it returns to being positive, my managers and mentors unrelated to the degree are fantastic and can't do enough to help you. The HR team are great, and provide a live chat system which resolves problems in no time. Support is always provided when you need it, and they will treat you like humans and take your questions or concerns seriously.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • In the early days I felt very undervalued, comparatively I could have been earning significantly more elsewhere for the same work. But when you factor in the support, the degree and job security it didn't bother me so much. Now I'm working at a grade more respectable to the work I'm doing and am far more satisfied.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Absolutely... if you live in London. Unfortunately I'm in Wales, and the amount of opportunities here is far smaller compared. I receive regular emails about school opportunities and events happening which could in some way be relevant to me, but I am not going to travel to England on my own dime.

  • 9. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's been a smooth and enjoyable experience overall. I still love and am proud of what I do. I still consider myself lucky for the opportunities I've had thus far and will continue to stay with Capgemini for many years to come.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • Focus on working as a team, it is fundamentally the most important part of the job. Nobody likes someone snobby or tries too hard, just remember they want people that they would work with on a daily basis, and don't be that guy that nobody can stand.
