  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Digital Experience Team, Digital Experience is the range of deep experiences that people have with a brand's digital touch points, from online to mobile. Me and my team within digital experience work on rapid prototyping, we create these prototypes for stakeholders within the Business, this 6-8 week prototyping we do allows us to quickly test and validate ideas and see if it worth taking to the next level. Daily work includes liaising with third parties on different prototypes, help all project owners within the team equally to ensure a quick and successful prototype.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My Past year at RBS has been great, I have learnt many new things and have developed existing skill. Having to deliver presentation to stakeholders whether that be over that phone or face to face, the learning opportunities are endless. I have also learnt a lot about prototyping and what it consists off and always working with different vendors with the prototypes has definitely improved my communication and time management skills. I have also completed the Business level 3 qualification as part of my apprenticeship where I have completed exams and coursework to help aid my understanding of business in general and help bring that into practice in my workplace.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really lucky to be part of the Digital experience team, you don't get to initially choose where you want to be so I am glad it was Digital Experience. Everyone here is treated as equal and the team are amazing to work with, there is a lot of people willing to help when asked. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at RBS and Digital so far and look forward to completing my apprenticeship

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I believe this comes down to how hard you are willing to work, if you work hard, you will be recognised for it. But just generally, my manager(s) have been great thus far and have helped me from the go, they have tried to keep me involved in projects with a certain level of responsibility as they want me to learn and grow and eventually lead some of these projects.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is fairly well organised, the BPP coursework could seem quite tedious at first but it does help with just learning the basics of being in business such as RBS. My tutor from BPP has been amazing, she's been helpful throughout the course by giving us monthly 1 to 1's to keep us on track of our coursework and exams.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I believe that this could be slightly better, the system we use to look at documents etc is not very user friendly and can become quite annoying to use. A few classes in the college would help rather then doing everything online as this gives you a chance to talk to a tutor face to face and sometimes this helps understanding something better. Overall, it has been good but could have been better with the documents etc.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I Receive a lot of support from my manager and HR, they are there to answer any questions I have whether it be regarding my work or my programme. They genuinely want to help you and make you succeed and that's very refreshing to see someone that puts in time and effort to ensure that you can become the best you can.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It meets my costs well, no complains about the salary.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are plenty of events and activities I can sign up to. I am currently signed up to Money Sense, this where you go to either a primary or high school to teach kids about money, way of spending etc. It feels good being able to give back and we have plenty of charity opportunities within my team and just generally over the whole bank

  • 9. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • For someone who is looking for an alternative to University, I would suggest they apply for RBS. firstly, the salary itself is higher then most apprenticeships you'll find out there. The support and learning you get whilst being here is immense and the learning and experience you will get throughout the course of the apprenticeship would be better then going to Uni in my opinion. It gives you the chance to work, earn and learn at the same time and I'm glad I made this decision and I look forward to what's coming post apprenticeship and the opportunities that lay ahead.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • The initial application process if fairly simple, you will have a phone interview which again should be fairly comfortable depending on if you do your research about the company and have a general idea about why you want to an apprenticeship. Once you pass the phone interview, you will have your face to face interview. My advice is to be yourself but also show them what this apprenticeship would mean to you and how much you are willing to learn. they don't expect you to know about the job role etc. they want to see that your determined and that you want to learn and better yourself so brush up on the competencies and think of great examples of team work, customer service etc. If you prepare well, there is no reason for you not to get the job. You have to want it and you have to show them you want it!
