  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am in Finance, in my previous placement (FCAS) i was set the task of checking debtors on a weekly basis, doing monthly crystal reports for other functions to work off, invoice customers when received authorisation, log the journals to make sure we were up to date and filed them all for auditing purposes, and i also implemented a filing system into the fucntion. Currently i do am in Tornado & NETMA and throughout the placement i have been completing my Project which is a Resource and Task Manager this contains all the tasks completed by this department allowing anyone to fill in for someone if they are off due to sickness or absence. I have also produced graphs for Finance Review that are very detailed and in agreed format, billed customers, rolled and populated CAM Proformas and SAP Journals.Overall i work with different Financial software Baan, TM1, SAP and Crystal and then also Excel to populate and roll certain files.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the work i do and i want to continue doing it for a long time to come. The teams i have worked in have been nice and caring. The company culture is good and everyone wants to do well and are motivated. It met up to my expectations and more as i didnt think i would get this much out of the programme so soon. I like the knowledge i am getting out of the programme and i am learning the business at the same time.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well structured with the 2 weeks induction and then going out into the business however i feel we could have had a better introduction into the departments before we chose as some were still unsure. Overall the support and studying we get is perfect and just enough to get our college work done and if we ever feel there is a problem i know am more than welcome to speak to many people from the training centre.

I feel i can talk to my team as well if need be. My mentor is always there for me and provides great support. They are all concerned and make sure i am happy and okay with everything. There attitude is very good and they are keen to make sure i have the right support and maximise what i get out of the programme.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I have moved down from Appleby and live on the Docklands in my own flat however, i am unable to pay for my rent and i have to stop doing things i would normally. Therefore for the apprenticeship years my dad is paying rent and i have to pay my bills this meaning most months i do struggle towards the end but i manage to get through if it means borrowing off my mum or dad.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many company events that you can get involved in, this is what i was highly surprised with. There are many football tournaments and other sport events but more importantly charity events e.g. Princes Trust that i am involved in now. The german exchange is another example and many other oppurtunities to say what you do and show your skills to other employees of BAE. The gym is very good that is just outside Warton and the football facilities and other facilities are to a good standard.

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Its a very friendly business and its great to work for as you expand and learn new skills. Everyone is friendly and you get the knowledge you need. The oppurtunities within BAE are vast and you can go many places. I love working here and everyone else will. I have learnt so much since starting at BAE and gained so much knowledge of Finance. It supports you with whatever steps you are willing to take.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Take your time when filling in the application and make sure you put down everything and not put yourself down. Be yourself during the interviews and express yourself, make sure you prepare well. Onboarding process look into BAE more and do your research before you come in as you are then prepared and are already one step ahead. I would have like to have been told more in depth on the different functions.
