Broadcast Operator Apprenticeship. Involves operating technology involved in the production or programs. This can be things such as cameras, vision mixers, sound desks and so on. Most jobs involves working along side a team, with everyone working towards making the program. So far I have worked on large Outside Broadcasts, as well as studios shows such as Reporting Scotland and Letterbox.
With every area I am working in, I am constantly learning new things. This can be anything from new etiquette to how a piece of technology works. Over the 4 weeks we have been on placement so far I have learned a tremendous amount.
I highly enjoy the program, especially the placement. I understand at this early stage we will not get to do everything, but so far I have had a chance to experience, first hand, the things I am interested in. The college side to the course is not as good, though some of the knowledge I have gained from the college has come in handy when on placement.
Very much so. We are always treated like adults, everyone is willing to answer questions and people accept we are trying to learn so might not be perfect straight away. We are treated like regular staff.
Very well, we have a clear timetable for the two years that lets us clearly see where we will be and when.
As much as we need. Our scheme managers are always easy to contact and lovely people. I feel no trouble about contacting them whenever I have questions or need help etc.
The same as our scheme managers, my line manager is extremely friendly and always willing to help in any way he can.
As I stay at home it covers it very well.
Yes, so far I personally haven't come across one, but I know that when there is one I am free to ask to get involved.
Yes
It is a great place to gain a large amount of knowledge and skill, as well as letting you network with people all across the industry.
Be yourself as the BBC is full of individual, unique people and don't doubt your skills but understand many of the people you will meet will have more experience and be willing to learn and listen to them.
