I am a Broadcast Operator Apprentice. This means I am involved in everything on the technical side of broadcast from camera work to transmission operations. It has been great so far but only been at my base a few weeks now and have a lot more things planned for the future months. This is great for practical people that really want to get involved in broadcast.
I have learnt tons about the broadcast industry and lots about computer networking as well during my college placements. The BBC specific training has been brilliant as we have very experienced lecturers and they really do want to get the best out of us to see further success with our careers.
This program is inspiring me to progress through the BBC and move up through the organisation. The BBC are dedicated to getting the best out of their staff and are an organisation built on helping each other, not money. They are at the front of the broadcasting industry and now is the best time to join and get involved as the BBC it driving the industry forward and has some great programs to help you get to where you want to be.
The BBC is by far the best employer I have ever worked for as they put staff first and not money. This means that safety and health of staff is an upmost priority. They have many systems in place to help staff with any issues they have and act on these issues fast. They also want you to be your best and will push you to get where you want to be. The development systems in place make things very easy for you to progress and try new rolls that you may not have had chance to look at before.
I can't fault the BBC for the organisation and support that they have given me so far. The program on the BBC side has been perfect. Unfortunately the college have not pulled their weight and this has caused some issues for our college training but the BBC have acted very fast when we addressed our concerns and things are getting sorted. The BBC will not be letting these issues happen again with further programs and they have acted fast and effectively.
The BBC have been there for us and supported us every step of the way. They have also been very contactable throughout the process. The College unfortunately have not been great and this has been raised to the BBC. They are acting on this and we are seeing changes. I would like to stress that this issue is not due to the BBC and its the college that have let us down and the BBC are acting on this.
The BBC couldn't have been better through out the process.
My salary is great as it covers everything I need personally. They also have been great with expenses too and this has made the whole process more affordable and given us the proper support to learn.
There have been many opportunities outside of work if you want them. Every one is happy to help you and always there for you. It is also easy to make contacts with people you need by simply asking.
Yes
The BBC is by fat the best employer I have ever worked for and have supported us every step of the way. All managers and other BBC staff have always been happy to help and want to see you succeed in your career.
Show your passion for this industry and don't miss any opportunities to progress yourself. If you don't get it the first time too then keep applying as it took me the second try to get in. Also if you don't get in think of ways you can progress yourself and develop for next time. This will show your dedication and passion to get into the BBC. Good luck!!!
