I'm taking the Broadcast Operator Apprentice. My role consist of training In college studying technology, Training in Wood Norton also Training on placement. On placement so far I have only been working in media central. My role in the place is to shadow and complete any jobs that are available for me to complete. I have done work in injesting tapes and CD's. Along with Burning CD's and printing labels on them. I have also done a bit of work changing file types. Such as changing a MXF file to a DPP file. Other jobs consist of downloading videos from social media sites such as youtube so productions can use it there project.
I have learned a few new skills such as Converting tapes to digital, File conversions using avid, I learned how to edit using avid. I learned how to use some file recovery software such as Sorenson squeeze and Fido. I also picked up what quality they recommend you should shoot in if you wanted to broadcast a video.
I'm really enjoying my programme. I found it was quite slow at the beginning with college but now that I'm in my placement things have speeded up. I enjoy working here with the Media Central team. Everyone is very supportive in the company and there hasn't been any question unanswered. The course exceeded my expectation's. I didn't realise how much support the company would provide for an apprentice. This support has defently helped me in work.
I do feel valued by the BBC. My manager always helps with any issues may it be college related or as simple as travel issues. In college projects that we complete as a team my opion is valued by my collegues in the team.
Every thing was down to a tee. The Induction was well set up along with the training. All these had a great plan and they stuck with it. I have plenty of weeks off for studying which is great so I can get my head into college work or stuff that was thought to us in wood Norton. Overall for organisation and structure I found that every thing the BBC academy ran themselves were very well done. When they outsourced to Newcastle College I found the College had a lack of organisation at the start but after informing my manager the organisation of the college has improved.
I found my training provider quite helpful and they have given good support. They have always given a good attitude to supporting me.
My Manger would support me with any issue. If anything is wrong she will make sure it is fixed. The HR team is fantasic and always help me solve the issue what ever it may be in good time. My metor on placement is great he always supports me to the best of his extend. Such as giving opertunitys to do OB's later on or shadow people in the gallery. The general attitude is positive. Everyone is up for teaching me something new once they have time on there hands. The majority of people here are very passionate about there jobs and love to share what they know.
My salary meets my costs well. Fornutitly enough Belfast isn't a very expensive place to live. Also I don't spend much on travel.
Ye there are plenty just recently I have been looking into joining a Scuba diving club in Belfast city. Before I was working I was living in the south east of Ireland studing for my exams.
Yes
I would recommend the BBC to a friend and I have done many times. The BBC unlike any company has trained me in such a way I could almost move into any department I fancy working in if there is a job available. There isn't a company that I have ever worked in that allows such a experience as such as the BBC.
Be your self tell them everything you do in your live for the interview. Ask questions if you don't know something why hide it and pretent you know it. You are better of just asking the question then getting to know it.
