  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Business and Performance management in Corporate and Institutional Banking in the Chief Operating Office. My job involves different type of costs, mainly people costs and indirect costs. My daily jobs include dealing with cost queries from businesses, who may want to look into a type of cost that they receive. This involves sourcing the information and then turning the information into a useful report for the business. All my interactions are internal, as the sole purpose of the division I work in is to serve the businesses needs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a vast number of skills since starting my apprenticeship. I would say that my computer skills have improved significantly, and especially my Excel skills, as this is smehting that I use on a daily basis. i would say my people skills have improved significantly, as my role involves speaking to a variety of different people across CIB.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would say that the job role and daily working life is the part of the job that I am enjoying the most. This is because, for me, going into the workplace was a whole new experience and i wsn't really knowing what to expect when i first started. But now i am six months into the job, i have a much clearer understanding of how the corporat ebank works and how my division fits into the organisaation and how my job role fits into the organisation.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I do feel valued by the RBS group. This is because the careers team are in constant communication with me and they are showing that they care about our roles as apprentices and also that they want us to suceed. Also, there is regular communication withpeople at the top of th ebank like Ross, who always try their best to feedback important information to us as quickly as possible.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would saya that for me, the programme itself is well structured. But hearing from some of the other apprentices, they were saying that they felt that the training provided by BPP didn't really match up with their job roles. I agree with this up to a certain extent, but i do feel that some of the training has been quite useful that hasn't neccecarily fitted my job role, e.g. the cusotmer servie training.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I would say that the training provider gives a sufficient amount of support to us as apprentices. Whenever I have a question, my work based assesor is quick enough to come back to me with a response. I would however say that the learning provider could get better when giving us notice regarding events or exams. This is because I was old i had an exam about 10 days before the exam was happening. Simirlarly, with the customer service training, i was given about the same time to book time off and complete the nessecary tasks for it.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would say that my employer provides a great amount of support to me. I feel that I work with a fantastic group of people that i get along well with, and they are always here for support and help.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I would sya that the salary package is sufficient enough to meet living costs but this is only because i live outside of london and travel in, which is still costly enough. If i were to live i nLondon, i would probably have a different answer.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are lots of oppurtunities available outside of work. Something that RBS is very supportive of is volunteering and helping in the community. Each employee is given 5 days off a year in which they can volunteer. I think that this is a great idea and its a great way of showing RBS giving something back to local communities.

  • 9. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because the group is filled with lots of interesting and intelligent people and i do believe that it is a great place to work, in terms of oppurtunities and the potential to do other things.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • I would say that its immportant for others o not be too worried about past experiences, and focus on what you have to offer now s a person. Its also important to outline where you see yourself going, your future ambitions and where you would ike to fit into the organisation. This way, you will make it clear to the employer what you have to offer.
