  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • It involves me turning up before the shop opens, early including Sundays, to turn off all alarms and ensure that we haven't got any pending deliveries or stock that needs refilling. In the day, working behind the tills or on the floor restocking and providing advice to customers, and cleaning up and stock checking upon close.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Communication skills and how to deal with less informed customers such as boyfriend's after a girlfriend's present or a grandparent wanting kids advice.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • A fair amount as it was easy to manage my time and decide what was needed to be done without too much pressure to be everywhere at once and customers were generally welcoming.

  • Mostly, as my student schedule proved difficult to negotiate at times where I had clashes but overall okay.

  • Very - I always woke up knowing what was required of me.

  • A lot - very understanding and never failed to remind me that they were in my shoes once.

  • A fair bit, not much communication however.

  • Not too badly since I am still a student so every pay pack is a bonus as I don't pay rent or food costs yet.

  • Yes as many retailers the same enjoy having people with prior experience in competitive chains.

  • Be yourself and don't try too hard to impress others - 'manage your time well and be polite.
