  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Project Management & Programming Apprentice, Two days a week on a construction site in London being a site engineer and conducting site inspections. Two days a week working on project controls, exporting and importing expenses and timesheets. One day a week day release.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Communication - have to liaise with contractors, clients and team members nationwide and globally to be able to get some work done. Time Management - I have to be organised only spending two days a week on each project i'm on means i am restricted on time so being more organised has helped this.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I like coming in to work each day, i have gained friends which i can be social not just in work out of work also. My managers on both projects help with me and ask if i ever need any help make sure they know.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Arup?
  • I am always involved in meetings and commissioning meetings on both projects and feel very included on both projects whether it is in the office or on the construction site.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well, had a couple of months before the degree actually started to get some knowledge about a degree i may of been unsure of in some areas. i have 6 weekly reviews with the organisation running the program.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • frequently contacted by the university and have 6 weekly reviews at the office i work in. i have an individual tutor who respond quickly. there is always someone i can ask and i can speak to other students to.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From my manager, to other work colleagues i always have someone to turn to. There are weekly catch up meetings every friday to see if my needs are being met.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I am paid more than i was expecting to be paid, which is obviously a bonus, and all expenses are paid by the company when travelling to site and university.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many clubs and social activities that frequently go on with Arup, such as ski trips etc. There are end of month drinks and anytime a big project is awarded to us we celebrate as either a company or a team.

  • 9. Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a good, employee owned company with lots of internal benefits and good people in the company.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • It can be slow to get into the company, but once you are in, it is very fast paced and you always have interesting work to do.
