  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an Apprentice Technician on the structures team. I help to create structural drawings and 3D models for projects that we are working on. I use software such as Revit

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to use software such as Revit, AutoCAD and Rhino etc. I have attended courses on CDM Regs 2015, and Asbestos Awareness. I have learnt about the construction industry and how structures are designed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working with colleagues as part of a team and I enjoy being part of the company. It has more than met my expectations.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Arup?
  • I feel valued by Arup. I receive feedback regularly and am very involved with tasks/projects.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well-organised and structured, and I receive all the necessary training and induction. Task are delegated to me by project managers and my mentor, they make sure I have enough work to do and also make sure I can meet deadlines.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive some support from my training provider and college tutors, however the BTEC course could be much better managed and organised by Salford College. I enjoy college a bit but I do not enjoy doing the NVQ.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my mentors and colleagues. I can ask questions and receive help at any time, they also help me with college work.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary meets my costs. It covers living , travel and social costs. I also get a pay rise every six months for the duration of my apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are lots of opportunities outside of work, both social and work related. These include charity activities, ICE events and social activities.

  • Yes

  • It is a good company and offers lots of support. They are open to offering you lots of opportunities and helping you to progress with your career.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • Try and get some experience in the field you are applying for, before you apply.
