CAD Technician Review

On a day to day basis my role is to carry out the production of drawings that are used by the client as well as creating 2D and 3D models, also aid engineers in checks with measurements and the viable options on a project.

Yes, having no previous skills in CAD I have learnt all of it whilst working for Arup, they have gave me a number of training courses as well as providing a buddy in the form of a apprentice further along the course and a mentor who is a senior member of the team to answer any questions.

As a whole I really enjoy the apprentice programme as the work I am given is challenging you are made to feel part of the team immediately, as well as this all the staff are very friendly and always willing to help.

Within Arup all good work is appreciated and praised, all apprentices are put into projects to ensure they get enough progress with using software as well as getting to know members of there team.

The academic side of the course is very organised within Arup with day release to college and set deadlines for all assignments. when you start at Arup you are given an induction at the office you will be working at but also are sent for a 3 day induction with all the other apprentices from all around the UK.

A lot of support is given from the training provider in terms of the qualifications you will work towards with both the College course as well as the NVQ that is also gained within the first 2 years.

Any support that is required is given by Arup, with a number of people who are available to ask from any help or express any concerns to. This is for both the college work being done as well as the being given in the office.

The salary at Arup is very competitive with similar level apprenticeships as well as this profit share is given every 6 months, so the salary is more than enough.
