  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a corporate tax trainee and I handle corporation tax compliance work for a number of my own clients and I help with other clients from around the team. I also do a small number of advisory projects in which I look into legislation and the laws surrounding areas of tax

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Everythin I have learnt since I have startedhas been new. I came in a blank canvas and have very quickly picked up numerous skills specific to my role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my work and I believe that there is definate room for progression for my career but also a certain flexibility within GT which removes some of the pressure from the work.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Grant Thornton?
  • I feel Grant Thornton truly value me and genuinely care about my progression into my career. I feel this is one of the attributes that makes them stand out from oter emloyers.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programe is quite well structured and I am aware of all the timings of my exams and work, however the large gap between starting the traineeship and completing exams is a questionable structure.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provided by Kaplan/Grant Thornton is excellent and I cannot flaw it. There is an expectance to spend alot of your own time revising and learning but this is of course expected entering a traineeship.

  • I recieve adequate support.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The Salary provied is competitive however cannot be expected to be too much as I am still in my first year of training with no qualifications as of yet

  • There are a few opportunities sucha s football and Golf days but not as many as first expected.

  • 9. Would you recommend Grant Thornton to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because It is a good firm to work for in the sense of pay and support recieved when trying to pass your proffessional examinations.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Grant Thornton?
  • Be yourself, Grant Thornton are looking for looking for the right person, not the person who necassarily has the highest grades. Although Grades obviously help.
